Service

You will hear a lot about service in OA. This Tool is addressed in greater detail deeper in our website. But, for now, please know that any form of service – no matter how small – helps reach a fellow sufferer while adding to the quality of our recovery.

Now that we’ve covered key parts of the program, let’s see what it might look like to work the program on a daily basis.

Your day starts with reading some program literature or taking time to pray and meditate on what you have read or on something about the day ahead. You might phone, text, or email a program friend or your sponsor to go over your Plan of Eating for the day. You might even get to a meeting. At the end of your day, you may reflect on what happened and what you learned. This simple routine keeps us on track.

Twelfth Step Within

Anyone who is abstinent and working their own recovery can do this [Twelfth Step Within] service. No special qualifications are necessary; only willingness is needed.

We can all help carry the message of recovery through abstinence and working the Steps by

  • Being well ourselves
  • Giving service, sponsorship, and friendship
  • Encouraging member retention
  • Attending Meetings and OA events

– OA’s Twelve Step Within Handbook

Santa Cruz County is currently building a Twelve Step Within Committee. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please speak to your meeting’s Intergroup Rep.

Service Opportunity

Four trustee vacancies have been declared by the Board of Trustees. According to OA Bylaws, Subpart B, the Board of Trustees may appoint qualified OA members to serve through WSBC 2025. It is important to make these appointments as quickly as possible, so the board is soliciting names and will make appointments in June.

If you are interested, download the application and job description. Email your completed application by June 14 to info@oa.org or mail it in time to be received at the World Service Office by the June 14 deadline. An officer of your region must sign the application.
